  5. Costanti Brunello di Montalcino 2012
    Italy

Costanti Brunello di Montalcino 2012 750 mL

A short history lesson to introduce you to the Costanti Brunello di Montalcino 2012, courtesy of our vintage room expert Jordan Carrier: "Ever since the 2012 Brunellos jumped into the pool and displaced everybody’s tub toys, I’ve been eagerly waiting for this beast to emerge from its cave. The Costanti family dates back to the 15th century, and their contributions towards establishing the 1555 Republic of Siena gave them huge endowments of land around Montalcino, where the vineyards still lie today (amongst Etruscan archeological remains). Having traded politics for farming in the 1700s, the Costantis, along with Biondi Santi, shaped the emerging “Brunello” wines from oxidative house plonk towards cellar-worthy fine wines. As Costanti is widely considered to be second only to Biondi Santi in championing traditional Brunello, this 2012 needs a couple of years to learn who not to bite, but the ingredients for dynamite are all here. Cherries, cinnamon hearts and black Twizzlers beaten by stones and giant oranges". Also awarded 98 points from The Wine Enthusiast and ranked #1 of their top 100 wine list 2017.

  6. Powell and Son Barossa and Eden Valleys Shiraz
    Australia

Powell & Son Barossa & Eden Valleys Shiraz 750 mL

Our Vintage room consultant Jordan Carrier was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to speak with the producers about this fantastic Australian Shiraz. "To hear Dave Powell explain how he was kicked out of Torbreck, the winery he founded, is to experience a masterclass in Australian profanity, after our meeting I had to check our building’s foundations for fissures. At Torbreck, Dave made Australia’s first 100pt Parker wine, but since he owned no land, he built handshake relationships with all of Barossa’s Old Vine growers to build his reputation. I’m not sure what Torbreck makes wine from now, because all of those growers (and their fruit) followed Dave to his new winery he founded with his son Callum (who works half the year in Hermitage with J.L. Chave). This blend of ripe Barossa fruit contained by the fresh brightness of Eden valley is stunning, deep spicy dark fruits with Earl Grey and crushed rocks and herbs – a hauntingly pretty nose – followed by a rolling body and a finish that is both intense and almost weightless (the younger Powell’s Rhone influences show here)."

  7. Marchesi Mazzei Fonterutoli 2013 Chianti Classico
    Italy

Marchesi Mazzei Fonterutoli 2013 Chianti Classico 750 mL

The Marchesi Mazzei Fonterutoli 2013 Chianti Classico is well described by our vintage room consultant Jordan Carrier. "Simply stunning, your suspicions that you badly need this are correct. This drinks like timelessness. Sweet spices surround the mineral and cherry notes, leathery tobacco ties it all together, and the finish – with the perfect balance of acidity, fruit, glycerine and soft tannins – is elegant and bracing. There’s no bad time to open this, the structure allows a decade of aging but it’ll pair with just about anything you eat this season (save chocolates and candies)".
