    Pierre Seillan, the French winemaker best known for Anakota and Sonoma's 100-point icon Verité, founded Tenuta di Arceno in 1994 and immediately identified the Valadorna plot as a perfect site to grow Merlot, the sandy soils are just like Bordeaux's Pomerol and the stream that runs through it keeps temperatures cool, so that the grapes are harvested last, when phenolic ripeness is perfect.
