    CheckMate Artisanal Winery Fool’s Mate Chardonnay 2021 is the estate’s only multi vineyard Chardonnay and is crafted to express complexity through blending rather than single site intensity. The 2021 vintage draws fruit from five distinct vineyards across the Golden Mile Bench, Black Sage Bench, and Osoyoos East Bench, bringing together a wide range of elevations, soils, and Chardonnay clones. In the glass, the wine opens with aromas of orchard fruit and melon, followed by layered notes of pear, nectarine, stone fruit, and vanilla. The palate is rich and textural yet tightly focused, with vibrant acidity providing lift and precision. Carefully balanced oak and alternative vessels contribute to depth and length, resulting in a Chardonnay that is both powerful and refined, with excellent aging potential.

    Fool’s Mate 2021 is sourced from five vineyards including Combret and Dekleva on the Golden Mile Bench, Jagged Rock and Sunset on the Black Sage Bench, and Border Vista on the Osoyoos East Bench. The wine incorporates a diverse set of Chardonnay clones, enhancing aromatic and textural complexity. Fermentation and aging are split between French oak barriques, large format foudre, and concrete egg, with a significant portion of new oak used to build structure while preserving freshness. This layered élevage approach delivers a long, balanced finish and reinforces the wine’s village level role within the CheckMate portfolio.
