  • Intense, persistent bouquet of rich wild cherries, toasted oak and warm vanilla and cocoa. The palate is soft, dense and well balanced. The finish is long and pleasant, with flavours of red berries against a smooth background of toast and spice.
  • Well-matched with roasted meat, game and aged cheeses.
  • Serpico is an Aglianico from the historic "Dal Re" ("by king") vineyard, a name that refers to the centuries-old, patriarchal vines from which these grapes are harvested
  • Manual harvesting starts in mid-October and lasts until early November. After pressing, a 10 day maceration on the skins, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel for about 3 to 4 weeks. Once malolactic fermentation is completed, the wine is aged for 18 months in medium toasted new French oak barrels and a further 12 months in bottle prior to release
  • 91 POINTS! Wine Spectator, 2011 Vintage

"A dense and tarry red set on a medium- to full-bodied frame, offering a creamy mix of herbed black olive, licorice string, sun-dried black cherry and fragrant smoke notes that linger on the firm finish. Drink now through 2026. 1,250 cases made."

95 POINTS! Robert Parkers Wine Advocate, 2010 Vintage

"The outstanding 2010 Irpinia Aglianico Serpico is Aglianico from a pre-phylloxera vineyard that sees 18 months of medium toast oak. This vintage reveals an impressive sense of balance and inner harmony with dark fruit tones that are enhanced by bright accents of cherry and dried blueberry. Extra focus and intensity is achieved thanks to the dusty mineral shadings that give pretty contours to the plump fruit. There are distant endnotes of crushed white pepper as well. The tannins offer both firmness and texture. This is a beautiful expression of Aglianico."

94 POINTS! James Suckling, 2008 Vintage

"A balanced and delicious red now with plum and light clove character. Hints of volcanic ash. Full body, soft tannins and a fruity finish. Very reserved and refined. Firmness at the end. Drink now or hold."
