Tasting Notes

This 2015 vintage shows a deep garnet color with magnificent purple tints. It reveals fresh aromas of peppermint along with sweet orange peels and cocoa notes. After aeration, fragrances of white flowers, blueberry, light vanilla and Mirabelle plum compote exhale. The ample and rich attack, develops raspberry and cedar aromas. A chalky tannin texture, given by our clay and limestone bedrocks where our merlots marvelously blossom is followed by a fresh and velvety finish.

About This Wine

Combining gourmet richness, voluptuousness and subtlety, Lilian Ladouys’s wines are made by and for epicureans. Drawing on history to tackle each vintage in a new way, doing away with ready-made recipes, listening to the vine and the terroir: this is the Lilian Ladouys work philosophy. Blind tastings are constantly performed throughout the year, whether of the grapes themselves or of batches in barrels. ‘Taste is at the heart of all our choices’, as Vincent Bache-Gabrielsen puts it.

Our top wine is matured for an average of 14 months in our superb barrel store (40-60% new oak depending on the vintage). Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot make up the majority of the blend, with the proportions varying from one year to the next. They are supplemented by Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The estate’s wines go into gravity-fed vats and undergo vinification with a partially gravity-based system, which is more sensitive to the integrity and subtleties of the grapes and the wine.

93 POINTS! Wine Enthusiast, 2017 Vintage

"The opulence of this wine balances the serious layers of tannins to give a wine with rich potential. Its spice and firm tannins will allow it to age. Drink from 2023. Barrel Sample: 91-93"

94 POINTS! James Suckling, 2016 Vintage

"Firm and silky with a lovely depth of fruit and polished tannins. Some cedar and berry. Full and dense. Excellent length. Energetic acidity at end. Yes. Better than the super 2014. Best ever. Barrel Sample:93-94 Points"

92 POINTS! James Suckling, 2015 Vintage

"This a very linear and refined red with currant and lemon aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a bright finish. Shows focus and beauty. Elegant and long. Drink in 2020."

93 POINTS! James Suckling, 2014 Vintage

"Fantastic aromas of blueberries, orange peel and flowers. Full-bodied, fruity — yet silky and focused with a beautiful center palate of fruit and ripe tannins. Remains fresh and gorgeous. Best ever. Drink in 2019."
